APL Journeys Spain

APL Journeys Spain is an ayahuasca retreat near Puerto Real, in Cádiz province, where Shipibo onanyas flown in from Peru lead the ceremonies. The venue is three minutes on foot from a wild stretch of Atlantic beach. APL Journeys has run programmes in Peru and Spain since 2017.

Approach

The seven-day programme holds four ceremonies and the six-day programme three, each opened by a sound session. The onanyas, among them Maestro Pepe Vasquez and Sani Lopez, work through a translator. Each guest has two private talks of 15 to 20 minutes with an onanya and two with an integration specialist, plus four integration circles, teaching on Amazonian plant traditions and a flower bath. Therapists, including chartered psychologist Josie Seydel, have what the organisers call a non-clinical role.

Practical details

Groups average 15 guests. For the February 2026 retreat, a place in a shared apartment cost €2,650, a private room €3,300 and a private apartment €3,500, with meals included except dinner on ceremony nights. Massage, private sound sessions and horse riding along the ocean cost €70 to €80 each. Seville airport is two hours away by car and Málaga two and a half, with shared transfers at €210 to €310 per car.

Care and safety

Screening covers medical history, medication and psychological background. The organisers name psychotic, dissociative and severe personality disorders, heart, liver and seizure conditions, pregnancy and breastfeeding as possible reasons to refuse a place, and usually advise a minimum age of 21. Preparation includes 18 video lectures and an onboarding call. Afterwards there is an online follow-up call, and a six-month integration programme with Nectara costs €100. The retreats run as private, non-commercial activities for members of an association, and the organisers state that Spanish law does not name ayahuasca as a controlled substance.
