Ayahuasca retreats

Ayahuasca centres and retreats, most of them in the Amazon and the Andes where the tradition lives.

Ayahuasca is a ceremony before it is anything else, and the listings here are centres that hold them, most in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Costa Rica. Each says who leads the ceremony, in what tradition, how long a stay is and what medical screening it asks for.

Questions people ask

Where is ayahuasca legal?

Peru, where it is protected as cultural heritage, and much of the Amazon basin, including Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil. Costa Rica hosts several long running centres. In most of Europe and North America it is not legal outside narrow religious exemptions. The listing says where a centre is.

What should I look for in an ayahuasca centre?

Who leads the ceremonies and in what tradition, a medical screening that asks about medications, trained staff present all night, and integration afterwards. Read the listing for medical screening and aftercare; the good ones name both, and the directory does not endorse any provider.

Are there medications that do not mix with ayahuasca?

Yes, and some combinations are dangerous, including several antidepressants. Any responsible centre asks about medication before accepting you; if one does not, treat that as an answer. Ask your own doctor as well.
