AXON Clinics Oslo

AXON Clinics Oslo, known in Norway as Axonklinikken, is an Oslo ketamine clinic that pairs ketamine with psychotherapy for depression and other mental health conditions. It has offered ketamine treatment since 2018, also runs a clinic in Trondheim, and patients can come with or without a referral.

Approach

Ketamine is never given on its own: each treatment includes about 40 minutes of psychotherapy, with the therapist present throughout. A full course usually has four to six sessions after a preparatory talk, and maintenance treatment can follow. The Oslo team includes physicians, an anaesthesiologist, psychologists and psychiatric nurses. Dr. Lowan Stewart, a doctor for over 20 years, helped Østfold Hospital develop methods for treatment-resistant depression. The clinic says it has given more than 6,500 ketamine treatments.

Who it is for

Treatment is aimed mainly at adults with treatment-resistant depression, depression that has not responded to at least two antidepressants or to talking therapy. It may also be considered for PTSD, anxiety, chronic pain, chronic headache and eating disorders after individual assessment. Active psychosis and uncontrolled high blood pressure rule treatment out.

Practical details

The Oslo clinic is at Bogstadveien 11 and works in person only. A first 50-minute consultation with a doctor costs NOK 2,900, each ketamine session NOK 7,590 and each extra talk NOK 2,100. A free 15-minute call or clinic visit is available, and insurance can cover part of the psychotherapy.

Care and safety

A thorough medical and psychological assessment comes first. During treatment a doctor is always present, blood pressure and pulse are monitored, and qualified staff supervise patients from arrival to departure. Follow-up comes at three, six and 12 months. The clinic notes that the treatment is off-label, and that in August 2025 Norway’s Beslutningsforum approved intravenous ketamine for treatment-resistant depression in its hospitals.
