Daytryp Health

Daytryp Health is a ketamine therapy provider whose in-clinic treatment now takes place at its flagship centre in Bend, Oregon. In Phoenix, Arizona, its website lists an address for at-home ketamine therapy, which runs by telehealth through its sister company DaytrypRX, with medicine delivered to the door.

Approach

In the clinic, ketamine is given by intramuscular injection or IV. An IM session lasts about an hour with a trained Tryp Guide present throughout, and ends with a conversation about the experience, a light snack and tea. Patients set intentions beforehand, and afterwards staff write down what the patient recalls in a journal, as details fade. A course is typically three to six treatments over two to four weeks. The at-home route uses sublingual, intranasal or transdermal ketamine, delivered within five days of a telehealth consultation. The team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and guides, and Dr Laura Meaney is medical director in Bend.

Who it is for

Daytryp lists depression, anxiety, PTSD, alcohol and opioid addiction, chronic pain and migraine, eating disorders, suicidal ideation and end-of-life care, along with couples sessions and personal growth. It says it aims especially at people not helped by traditional treatment.

Practical details

In Bend, a single IM treatment costs $500 and an IV treatment $550, with packages of three, six or nine sessions from $1,475 to $4,350. A membership of up to 12 sessions a month costs $4,450. Veterans, military and first responders get 10% off, and there is a humanitarian scholarship programme.

Care and safety

Every patient fills in a medical questionnaire and meets a member of the medical staff before treatment. Blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen are checked before and during sessions, anti-nausea medication is given, and a session ends only once the patient can walk and keep down food and fluids.
