About
Shangriballa is a 5-MeO-DMT retreat centre in the mountains of central Portugal, near Colmeal in the Coimbra District, holding Bufo retreats at Loural Eco Village. Its programmes pair the medicine with somatic trauma release and non-dual inquiry.
Approach
Founder and lead facilitator Lisa Silva, a kambo and Bufo practitioner who trained with Sangomas in South Africa, says she has led more than 2,000 ceremonies. Miguel Silva, a kambo practitioner, co-leads. Over five days, a preparation day leads to a low-dose session, a main-dose ceremony, an optional further session and an integration workshop; three and four-day versions drop some days. Meditation, sharing circles, sound healing, movement and massage run alongside, and the teaching draws on Advaita Vedanta. The centre has said it uses synthetic 5-MeO-DMT from a laboratory in the Netherlands, and the optional kambo comes from the Matsés people of Peru.
Who it is for
The centre says its retreats are open to all seekers and that it adapts its care for neurodivergent people and those with particular sensory needs. People over 65 are asked to get in touch for an assessment before booking.
Practical details
Groups have been listed at five to twelve people and prices at €1,000 to €3,000. The eco village has a natural swimming pool and a sauna. After the retreat there are follow-up calls and a private online community.
Care and safety
Applicants complete an online medical and psychological questionnaire and a video consultation, and a doctor or therapist assesses anyone whose suitability is unclear. Heart problems, bipolar disorder and any history of psychosis must be disclosed. The safety guide treats SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs and lithium as dangerous with Bufo. The team monitors vital signs before, during and after sessions and keeps medical oxygen and a defibrillator on site.
