The Avante Ibogaine Institute

The Avante Ibogaine Institute is an ibogaine clinic in Nassau, on New Providence in the Bahamas, offering inpatient ibogaine treatment for addiction, PTSD and depression alongside 5-MeO-DMT and psilocybin therapies. Nic Avante founded it in 2013.

Approach

Programmes are residential and last 7 to 14 days. For addiction, clients are first stabilised, then given a metabolic panel, blood count and EKG to check liver, kidney and heart function before ibogaine treatment. Programmes also include one-to-one preparation and integration sessions, recovery coaching, IV nutrient infusions and group meditative yoga at an oceanfront facility. A veterans programme serves people from the US armed forces and first responders living with PTSD and mild traumatic brain injury. Nic Avante draws on more than 20 years of his own experience of addiction.

Who it is for

The institute serves people who want to stop using drugs or alcohol, including opiates, fentanyl and kratom, and people with PTSD, depression, anxiety, OCD or traumatic brain injury. It sets minimum clinical health standards and decides who qualifies.

Practical details

Prices have been listed at 7,500 to 15,000, without a currency. The clinic is at MediCentre Plaza in Nassau, and it works with residential and intensive outpatient programmes for aftercare.

Care and safety

Before acceptance, candidates have an EKG and full blood tests through their own GP, and anyone with a personal or family history of heart problems also needs an echocardiogram. Intake includes a clinical application, a depression questionnaire, a phone interview and a family consultation. During treatment a critical care nurse trained in ibogaine monitors each patient under the medical director, with supervision and vital-sign checks around the clock. The team includes ER physicians, an attending physician at PMH Hospital in the Bahamas and critical care nurses with ACLS training.
