Ibogaine treatment centres and retreats

Treatment centres, retreats and guides that work with ibogaine, most of them for addiction and dependence.

Ibogaine comes from the root bark of iboga, a shrub from Central West Africa, where the Bwiti tradition uses it in ceremony. Outside that tradition it is best known as a treatment for opioid and other addictions. It is illegal in the United States and in several European countries, which is why most of the centres here are in Mexico, Portugal, Costa Rica, Thailand and the Bahamas. It also carries real cardiac risk, so a serious provider screens every guest with an ECG and blood tests first and keeps medical staff present throughout.

Questions people ask

Is ibogaine safe?

Ibogaine carries real cardiac risk and has caused deaths. It should only ever be given after a medical screening that includes an ECG, and with monitoring throughout. A listing that does not describe its medical setup is not one to choose.

How is it different from other psychedelics?

A single session lasts much longer than most, often a day or more, and it acts on the body as well as the mind, which is why it is given in a clinic or a residential setting rather than at home.

Where do I start if I am in crisis?

With a doctor or an emergency service, today. This directory lists options for later, not help for right now.
