Anna Yusim, MD
About
Anna Yusim, MD, runs a private psychiatry and coaching practice based in New York City, with clients in several other US states. She offers psychotherapy, medication when it is indicated, executive coaching and the integration of psychedelic experiences.
Approach
Yusim did neurobiology research with Robert Sapolsky, studied at Stanford and Yale Medical School and trained in psychiatry at NYU. She then lived and worked in more than 70 countries, studying Kabbalah and Buddhist meditation and learning from South American shamans and Indian gurus. She teaches at Yale Medical School as a clinical assistant professor, co-founded its Mental Health and Spirituality Program, is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and wrote the book Fulfilled. Her therapy is psychodynamic, existential and action-oriented. She sees psychedelics as working where mind, body and spirit meet, and says their integration has become a large part of her therapy.
Who it is for
She sees adults, couples and families who want personal growth or help through transitions such as divorce, grief, job stress or infertility, as well as people with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic, insomnia or addiction. Medication services are for adults only. Her coaching clients have included Forbes 500 chief executives, Olympic athletes and heads of university departments.
Practical details
A first consultation lasts 60 minutes and follow-ups 15, 30 or 45 minutes, in person or remotely. Fees are given on request. She does not take insurance, though many patients reclaim part of the fee through out-of-network benefits. The first session is paid in advance, and cancellations need 24 hours’ notice.
