Christopher Corey, LMFT

Christopher Corey is a licensed marriage and family therapist in San Francisco’s Castro district who works with individuals, couples, families and groups, drawing on existential-humanistic and Gestalt traditions. He offers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in partnership with Journey Clinical, and psychedelic integration.

Approach

Corey works with what is happening in the room now and how old survival strategies shape present patterns. He takes spiritual and archetypal experience seriously, drawing on decades within Western spiritual traditions. His studies took him to Columbia University and then the California Institute of Integral Studies, and he completed the MAPS practitioner training in MDMA therapy. His background includes over twenty years heading litigation technology at three international law firms, gay youth leadership in Boston and AIDS activism in New York.

He sees adults and adolescents for depression, anxiety, grief and loneliness, trauma, illness, shame, compulsive behaviour, career changes, end-of-life questions and creative or spiritual blocks. He works within the LGBTQ+ community and with kink and poly communities, which he counts as his own, and with partners who are coming together or moving apart.

Practical details

His office is at 126 Church Street, between Market Street and Duboce, and he also works online. Sessions cost $200 for 50 minutes for individuals and $250 for couples, with a few reduced-fee places. He accepts one insurance plan, Enthea, which covers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy only, and otherwise provides billing statements for out-of-network claims. He works afternoons and evenings until 8pm.

Care and safety

For ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, a Journey Clinical clinician reviews medical and psychiatric history over Zoom and decides on eligibility, and the medical team prescribes the medicine and monitors outcomes, while Corey provides the psychotherapy. Only sublingual lozenges are used; the effects last about 45 minutes, and the rest of the session is for processing. His California licence number is MFC 105894.
