Ivy Tiegel, LMFT

Ivy Tiegel is a licensed marriage and family therapist in San Francisco who offers psychedelic preparation and integration and, with a partner physician, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. She sees individuals and partners in an office in the Mission, close to the 24th Street BART station, and online by encrypted video.

Approach

She holds an MA in counselling and expressive arts therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies and art degrees from Pratt Institute (BFA, photography) and UC Davis (MFA, studio art), and has been part of San Francisco’s art scene since the first dot-com boom. Her therapy is relational and attachment-based, from a feminist, anti-oppression point of view, and alongside talk it may use visual art, movement, sand tray, writing, ritual and body awareness. Her ketamine training was with Phil Wolfson and Julane Andries of the Ketamine Training Center; she has also completed MAPS training in MDMA-assisted therapy and SFSI’s sex educator training, and studied the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy.

Who it is for

She works with people from teenagers to elders, across genders and sexual orientations, and with partners in traditional and non-traditional relationships, including consensual non-monogamy, kink and sex work. She pitches her practice at artists, healers and outliers, and her issues include sex therapy, ADHD and neurodivergence, creative blocks, grief, ageing and caregiver burnout.

Practical details

A 50-minute session costs $230, and a 75-minute session for partners usually $345, with some sliding-scale places. New clients meet weekly. She is out of network, gives monthly statements and asks for 48 hours’ notice to cancel. For psychedelic work she generally suggests three preparation and three integration sessions, ideally within ongoing therapy. A free 20-minute phone consultation comes first, and she is licensed in California only.
