Jennifer Zuckerman

Jennifer Zuckerman is a family nurse practitioner in Austin, Texas, who runs Resonate Health, a practice built around medically supported tapering off psychiatric medication. Preparation and integration for psychedelic experiences, including microdosing support, are part of the work.

Approach

Zuckerman holds RN, MSN and FNP-BC credentials and has more than 16 years of experience as a nurse practitioner in hospital, office and home-based care. She left conventional practice frustrated by short appointments, heavy patient loads and prescribing that missed root causes. Work starts with a consultation on mental health history, medical history and past medication, and the taper is planned together. It combines tapering strategies she calls evidence-informed with supplements for the nervous system, changes to nutrition and lifestyle, and regular monitoring. She says she does not treat medication as the enemy, and respects a client’s decision to go back on it.

Who it is for

Her focus is people who want to come off antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs, ADHD medication or, where appropriate, some mood stabilisers, including those who have tried tapering alone before. For many clients the taper is preparation for intentional psychedelic work, and she works alongside retreat groups, facilitators and a legal psilocybin centre in Colorado.

Practical details

Follow-ups take place weekly or every two weeks. Some tapers last eight weeks, others twelve weeks or longer, at the person’s own pace. Sessions cost $200 an hour, the first hour being the consultation, and they can be held remotely. Booking goes through an online client portal.

Care and safety

Clients complete a medical intake form and are medically cleared before the plan begins. Zuckerman pays close attention to how medications interact with psychedelics and works on steadying the nervous system before any medicine work, and she refers clients to integration practitioners when useful. She says she has guided nearly 800 people through tapering.
