About

Alison McQueen is a licensed professional counsellor and board-certified art therapist in Boulder, Colorado, who works as a psychedelic therapist and integration coach. She co-founded the Center for Medicinal Mindfulness in 2012 and is its clinical director, and the centre lists her as a licensed clinical facilitator under Colorado’s natural medicine programme.

Approach

She was a sub-investigator and MDMA-assisted psychotherapist in a Phase 2 study for complex PTSD, sponsored by MAPS and approved by the FDA. Since 2014 she and her husband, co-founder Daniel McQueen, have built protocols and trainings for psychedelic therapy with cannabis, and in 2019 she completed the Ketamine Training Center’s course in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. She holds a 2012 master’s from Naropa University in transpersonal counselling psychology, with an art therapy emphasis, and has over three years of somatic trauma training. She describes a feminist way of working built on transparency and collaboration, and brings in ceremony, ritual or prayer on request.

Who it is for

She works with individuals and groups, with a focus on trauma and depth work, anxiety and depression, PTSD, conscious parenting and post-traumatic growth. She also leads bilingual group retreats for women that combine myth, art and psychedelic medicine, and supervises and mentors psychedelic professionals.

Practical details

She works at the centre in Boulder and remotely. The centre prices each intensive by the practitioner’s hourly rate times the hours booked, and its formats run from a pair of ketamine sessions to several days that combine cannabis, ketamine and psilocybin.

Care and safety

Each client goes through an extensive intake with a psychedelic safety assessment and a medical evaluation, and the team says psychedelic therapy is not for everyone. Preparation sessions precede the medicine sessions, which have medical oversight, and integration sessions follow. She holds professional counsellor licence #0012953 and art therapy registration #18-180.
