Bacher earned a master’s and a doctorate in clinical psychology at Pepperdine University. His site says he has worked as clinical director and chief psychologist for 15 years, at centres such as Passages Malibu, Promises Malibu, Bridges to Recovery in Beverly Hills and The Kusnacht Practice in Zurich, and has researched psychedelics and plant medicines for 20 years. His therapy pairs mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy with humanistic, insight-oriented work on how early conditioning shapes beliefs and habits. He has taken part in ceremonies with Indigenous healers from North and South America.

Practical details

Psychedelic work starts with a free 15-minute call and an intake of 75 to 90 minutes. The psilocybin or LSD package costs $4,500 to $6,500: two hour-long preparation sessions, a session of four to six hours with psilocybin or eight to ten with LSD, and two integration sessions. A sound healer and a female co-therapist are also present. The MDMA package, at $7,500, has three preparation meetings and two sessions, each followed by three integration meetings. Concierge care in a client’s home costs $2,000 a day plus travel.

Care and safety

The intake also checks for medical or mental health conditions that would rule the work out. His site notes that psilocybin, LSD and MDMA are listed in Schedule 1 under US federal law and that he does not supply them himself. He is licensed in California under number PSY 24176.
