Mary Lee Roberts, LPC

Mary Lee Roberts, MS, LPC, is a licensed professional counsellor in The Woodlands, Texas, who offers preparation and integration therapy around psychedelic experiences as well as EMDR and other trauma work. She has run a private practice for more than 30 years.

Approach

From 1972 to 1991 Roberts worked as a psychological associate for school districts, in special education and counselling. She holds a BS from Brigham Young University and an MS from Texas A&M at Commerce. An early adopter of EMDR, she is also a certified master practitioner of Emotional Transformation Therapy, a method that works with light and colour, and was the first president of its international association. For psychedelic work she pairs EMDR with Internal Family Systems, and adds ten years of shamanic psychodrama training and eight years as a certified psychedelic integration coach.

Who it is for

Her clients bring depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety, trauma, PTSD and abuse, OCD and phobias, grief, couple and parenting issues, and spiritual crises. Because psychedelics are illegal in Texas, her psychedelic work is limited to preparation and integration, and clients choose their own substance and guide.

Practical details

A 50-minute session costs $175, with longer sessions on request and a sliding scale for clients in financial need. She does not file insurance but provides receipts for out-of-network claims, and takes cash, cheques or Venmo, not credit cards. Sessions are in person in The Woodlands, three days a week, or online, and a free 10-minute chat comes first.

Care and safety

Listed by MAPS as an integration provider for more than six years, she follows its protocol of at least two preparation sessions before an experience and at least two integration sessions after it. Preparation looks at the client’s background and shapes an intention, and deeper processing can follow once integration is complete.
