Candyce D. Tart, PhD

Candyce D. Tart is a licensed clinical psychologist in Albuquerque and the owner of Cedar Psychology Services, which offers therapy in person in New Mexico and by telehealth in New Mexico and Colorado. Alongside general psychotherapy she provides preparation and integration for people having ketamine, psilocybin or MDMA treatment. Her website says the practice is currently full and takes new clients by referral only.

Approach

Tart earned her PhD in clinical psychology at Southern Methodist University in 2012 and went on to a postdoctoral residency in PTSD with the VA health care system in New Mexico. From 2013 to 2024 she worked as a VA clinical psychologist in clinical and leadership roles, training psychology and psychiatry residents, and she has written 17 peer-reviewed articles on anxiety disorders, PTSD and OCD. The Integrative Psychiatry Institute certified her in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. She uses CBT, ACT, mindfulness and parts work, and structured treatments such as prolonged exposure for PTSD and exposure and response prevention for OCD.

Who it is for

Her practice now centres on healthcare providers, people facing burnout and people in large life changes such as retirement, menopause, a new diagnosis, divorce, an empty nest or end-of-life questions. She also treats anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, sleep problems and nightmares, and chronic illness or pain. She says most clients reach their goals within 8 to 12 sessions.

Practical details

Her office is at 2501 Rio Grande Blvd NW in Albuquerque’s North Valley. A free 15-minute consultation comes first, then a 90-minute intake at $250; individual sessions cost $200 for 50 minutes and extended sessions $275 for 75 minutes. Most commercial and individual Presbyterian plans are accepted, including the Turquoise Medicaid plan, and she can provide a superbill for other insurers. Veterans and first responders can ask for one of a few weekly slots at a lower rate.
