Setareh Vatan, LMFT, LPCC

Setareh Vatan is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and professional clinical counsellor (LPCC) based in Calabasas, California. She works with addiction, trauma and PTSD, and offers preparation and integration sessions for people who use psychedelics.

Approach

She earned an MA in counselling psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2021 and also holds an MA in clinical psychology. Her therapy draws on psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and Jungian thinking, Internal Family Systems, attachment work and person-centred practice. She has trained in integrative harm reduction psychotherapy and took the MAPS training in MDMA-assisted psychotherapy. With clients who use substances she works with both the Twelve Step model and harm reduction, and decides with each person which suits them. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is among the therapies she lists.

She sees teenagers and adults, alone, as couples or as families. Her main areas are addiction and substance use, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, anxiety and mood concerns, and she offers affirming care to LGBTQIA+, kink and non-monogamous clients. She also supports people who were formerly incarcerated as they return to life outside, and she speaks Farsi.

Practical details

Sessions are held online, and she is licensed in both California and Colorado. Individual sessions cost $200, with a sliding scale for clients who qualify. She is not in any insurance network but can give a superbill for reimbursement.
