Mycosomatic Magic Mushroom Meditation
About
Mycosomatic Magic is a non-profit association that offers private, one-to-one psilocybin sessions in rural Andalucía, at El Gastor in the province of Cádiz, and at Lake Atitlán in Guatemala. It does not run group retreats: each session is one stage of a longer process of screening, preparation and aftercare.
Approach
The team bases its sessions on clinical protocols from Johns Hopkins University, Imperial College London and MAPS, and draws on somatic methods, Reichian emotional release and breathwork. Its facilitators trained in trauma-informed plant medicine work with Atira Tan and signed the North Star ethics pledge. A session opens with a talk about intentions and fears and a mindful eating meditation. The mushrooms, which the team grows itself, are served as a tea with calming herbal extracts, followed by a sound bath of live instruments and nature recordings. Sessions take place indoors, with one or more monitors present throughout. Siddiq Khan, who grew up in Cape Town, is the founding director.
Who it is for
The association offers its sessions to people in need. It strongly urges anyone arriving with addiction, OCD, anxiety or depression to see one of its allied psychologists first, and refers people elsewhere when their needs lie beyond its scope.
Practical details
The facilitators work on a donation basis. A reservation fee of €150 covers on-site accommodation, a massage, materials and transport, while the allied psychologists charge their usual fees for optional preparation and integration sessions. The team can host two sessions a day, three days a week, and aftercare includes an introduction to microdosing.
Care and safety
Intake includes medical and psychological screening and an introductory interview. Preparation adds educational material and baseline psychometric measures; outcome measures are taken again some days after the session, along with a personal aftercare email. The association describes its sessions as legal.
