Melissa Scannell, LMHC, LPC, LPCC, RMT

Melissa Scannell (she/her) is a licensed mental health counsellor in Valparaiso, Indiana, who specialises in complex trauma and offers psychedelic preparation and integration through her practice, Lost Space LLC. She works in person and by telehealth nationwide, and is also licensed in Colorado and New Mexico.

Approach

Scannell has worked in mental health since 2005. Early on she was a clinical director in a UHS hospital system, training staff in DBT, and she later opened her own Joint Commission-accredited hospital system with an intensive outpatient programme. A personal trauma led her to MAPS training in MDMA and psilocybin therapy, and she has also trained in ketamine-assisted therapy. She is certified in EMDR and hypnosis, is a Reiki Master Teacher and has completed three years of training in Indigenous healing practices. Preparation covers intentions, expectations and a personal support plan, with grounding, resourcing and breathwork; integration uses guided reflection, mindfulness and dialogue. Sessions also draw on Reiki, sound healing and guided meditation.

Her site lists complex trauma, depression and anxiety, veterans and first responders, people living with cancer, and spiritual approaches to addiction recovery. She is especially drawn to people exploring meaning, identity and spirituality, and she mentors and supervises clinicians and facilitators.

Practical details

Sessions last 90 minutes and cost $150 to $300, under what she calls a restorative pricing model aimed at accessibility. A free 15-minute phone call comes first. A free psychedelic integration group meets on Zoom every Tuesday from 9 to 10:30am Central time, and she also runs small group retreats and a local chapter of the Indiana Psychedelic Society.
