About

Mycelia is a psilocybin retreat at Tower Isle, St Mary, on Jamaica’s north coast near Ocho Rios. Since 2020 it has run small group retreats built around psilocybin ceremonies.

Approach

The three-day weekend has two psilocybin ceremonies, the five-day retreat two or three and the seven-day Heroic Journey up to four, each with one Bufo (5-MeO-DMT) ceremony. A guide stays through each ceremony, which usually starts at noon. Doses are set individually in advance, and the psilocybin is grown on site and lab tested. Yoga, breathwork, sound healing, massage and a rapé ceremony fill the rest of the days. The team includes psychedelic guides, a shaman with over 10 years’ experience and more than 200 ceremonies, an integration coach and a guide trained as an EMT. Founder Troy Tennison hosts.

Who it is for

Mycelia says guests come with stress and burnout, anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief or a life transition. It takes singles, couples, private groups and company teams, but turns away anyone who has had psychosis or schizophrenia, and some people with bipolar conditions.

Practical details

Prices are $2,250 for three days, $3,995 for five and $4,995 for seven, covering a seven-room villa, a private chef and local transport. Groups take up to seven guests. Airport rides are free from Ian Fleming International and cost $90 each way from Montego Bay. Mycelia states that psilocybin is legal in Jamaica.

Care and safety

Each guest fills in an intake form on mental health, medication, trauma history and intentions, then has a one-to-one call with a guide. People on SSRIs or SNRIs may have to come off them first, with a doctor overseeing it. There is roughly one facilitator for every three guests, and online integration support continues for 30 days afterwards at no extra cost.
