The Medicine Journey
About
The Medicine Journey is a psilocybin retreat in Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica, led by the Reverend Jacqui Ruiz, whose practice is called Embracing Your Light. Her current offer in Nuevo Arenal is a private five-day retreat, alongside couples retreats and group retreats elsewhere in Costa Rica.
Approach
An ordained minister who coaches executives and once worked as a mortician, Ruiz says she has guided people for more than 15 years, and she also trains psilocybin facilitators. The private retreat runs over four nights with two psilocybin ceremonies, two tea ceremonies, body movement and daily integration coaching. Earlier group editions in Nuevo Arenal had two ceremonies, two integration sessions with Dr Leanne Whitney and breathwork, with a registered nurse on the team and room for eight guests. The psilocybin is bought from local farmers.
Who it is for
The work is aimed at people committed to change rather than simply curious, including those dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, OCD, trauma or grief, and people facing the end of life. Ruiz reviews every application herself.
